Victoria Azarenka labelled John Inverdale’s commentary as ‘comical’ after the broadcaster known as a blended doubles Wimbledon match on the BBC.
The previous world No. 1 and two-time Grand Slam champion, who has been enjoying alongside British doubles ace Jame Murray within the event, took to Twitter to hammer Inverdale.
She posted: ‘We’re simply rewatching our blended doubles now… who ever is commentating this match is simply comical and never in a great way…’
Azarenka then uploaded a video of her nodding sarcastically together with Inverdale describing ‘most convincing service she’s had in a very long time’.
She stated of the incident: ‘I believe it was extra irony in my tweet, I don’t assume it’s frustration, I believe it’s fairly superb that there are people who find themselves not so educated commentating on the tennis.
‘I’ll depart you with what he stated, “Azarenka’s second serve woof”!’
When quizzed over what she thought the 60-year-old had meant, she replied: ‘I don’t know. It was horrendous.’
It’s not the primary time Inverdale has been caught up in controversy at The Championships.
He infamously criticised Marion Bartoli’s look forward of her sole Grand Slam title win in 2013, claiming she was not a ‘looker’ like Maria Sharapova.
Nevertheless, the BBC performed down the spat.
‘Our presenters and commentators include a wealth of expertise and data masking all features of the sport on the very highest stage,’ a spokeswoman stated.
‘Ideas on particular person presenters and commentators are subjective and so it’s inevitable that our viewers will want some over others.’
